Purpose

Offers assistance with recruiting and retaining qualified pediatric medical subspecialty care, pediatric surgical specialty care, and behavioral healthcare providers serving Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs) and Medically Underserved Areas/Populations (MUAs/Ps). New and current clinical staff working in eligible disciplines at an approved facility are eligible to receive loan repayment assistance through the Pediatric Specialty Loan Repayment Program (LRP). Helps eligible facilities address pediatric workforce shortages and increase access to care, including mental health and substance use disorder (SUD) prevention and treatment services for children and youth.

Amount of Funding

Approved facilities receive assistance with recruiting and retaining pediatric medical subspecialty, pediatric surgical specialty care, and behavioral healthcare professionals. Assistance is provided at no cost.

Who Can Apply

A practice site must meet the following criteria to be eligible:

  1. Located in a Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA) or serves a Medically Underserved Area/Population (MUA/P)
  2. Operate outpatient or inpatient facilities, providing primary medical, dental, and/or mental and behavioral health services

Practice sites that have been registered in the HRSA Bureau of Health Workforce Customer Service Portal and that meet the above criteria will be automatically approved as a Pediatric Specialty LRP-approved facility.
