Description

Offers evidence-based, voluntary programs that provide families with regular, planned home visits from qualified health, social service, and child development professionals. Supports at-risk pregnant people and parents with children up to kindergarten entry with resources to raise physically, socially, and emotionally healthy children. Provides guidance on parenting and health topics, such as breastfeeding, safe sleep practices, injury prevention, nutrition, and childcare solutions. Seeks to improve maternal and child health, prevent child abuse and neglect, encourage positive parenting, and promote child development and school readiness.

What This Program Offers

The Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program services may include:

  • Support for preventive health and prenatal practices
  • Breastfeeding information
  • Infant and child care information
  • Supporting early at-home learning focused on parent-child communication and language development
  • Promoting parents' use of praise and other positive parenting techniques
  • Working with mothers to set goals for the future related to education, employment, and childcare
  • Screenings for early diagnosis of autism and other developmental disabilities in children
  • Screening caregivers for postpartum depression, substance use, and family violence and connecting them to appropriate resources

Who Can Receive Services from This Program

Pregnant people and parents with children ages from birth up to kindergarten entry are eligible for home visiting.
